Germany’s First Bidirectional Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Charging Offer from BMW Group and E.ON: Wallbox and Electricity Tariff Now Available to Order

With Germany’s first Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) offer and the new BMW iX3, customers can charge at home for free for up to 14,000 kilometers per year

2/19/2026

Munich. With the Neue Klasse, BMW is taking bidirectional charging to the next level, making Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) accessible to all customers. V2G is launching now: The BMW Group and E.ON are continuing their long-standing strategic partnership and are taking the next step following the successful announcement of Germany’s first commercial Vehicle‑to‑Grid offer at IAA Mobility in September 2025. As of today, private customers can order the complete product package, consisting of the BMW Wallbox Professional, the V2G electricity tariff from E.ON (E.ON ÖkoStrom Home & Drive V2G together with the E.ON V2G Plus feed-in contract), and – if not already installed – an intelligent metering system (smart meter).

This offer enables BMW electric vehicles of the Neue Klasse equipped with the 6th generation BMW eDrive technology, starting with the new BMW iX3, to actively interact with the power grid by feeding energy from the vehicle’s high‑voltage battery back into the grid.

Automatic charging and discharging is managed by a jointly developed BMW E.ON algorithm. Customers benefit from every hour their vehicle is plugged in, receiving an annual bonus of up to 720 Euros. This allows BMW iX3 drivers to cover up to 14,000 kilometers per year at no charging cost, while also contributing to the future of sustainable energy.

The My BMW App provides simple and transparent control. Customers maintain full oversight of current and target charge levels and can check their real-time bonus status with E.ON directly in the app. Intelligent protection functions ensure the high-voltage battery always remains within an optimal operating range.

With 11 kW charging power, it is one of the first bidirectional wallboxes on the market and offers additional intelligent charging modes.

V2G at a Glance

Tariff & Compensation model: The E.ON ÖkoStrom Home & Drive V2G tariff offers full price certainty thanks to a fixed energy price per kilowatt-hour and a fixed base fee for both household and charging electricity. Through the V2G feed-in contract, the customer’s bonus account accumulates up to 720 Euro annually for every hour the vehicle is connected to the bidirectional wallbox and V2G is activated—regardless of whether energy is charged or discharged. Each kilowatt-hour discharged back to the grid is compensated at 40 Euro-Cent per kWh.

Customer-focused: Drivers maintain full control and can set their charging targets in the My BMW App to ensure mobility needs are always met. The bonus account with E.ON is linked to the app and can be viewed transparently at any time.

Battery protection: Intelligent safeguards ensure the high-voltage battery always operates within an optimal range.

Contribution to the Energy Future: Vehicle batteries help stabilize the energy system during periods of surplus electricity or increased demand. V2G supports the optimal use of renewable energy and reduces long-term energy-system costs.

Filip Thon, CEO of E.ON Germany: “The first commercial V2G offer in Germany marks a groundbreaking milestone, linking electromobility with the energy transition—and enabling private customers for the first time to tap into the potential of electric vehicles as flexible power storage for tomorrow’s energy world.”

Marcus Krieg, Head of New Business Models at BMW Group: “With the Neue Klasse, BMW vehicles become an active part of the energy ecosystem for the first time. Their technology enables intelligent storage and return of energy to the grid, reducing customer costs while strengthening the use of renewable energy.”

The BMW Group now offers a solution for all customers wishing to charge their fully or partially electric BMW/MINI intelligently while reducing home‑charging costs.

The vehicle charges automatically at selected locations when electricity prices are especially low—taking planned departure times and target charge levels into account. This function is available for all electrified BMW and MINI models across all drive generations and can be used with the BMW/MINI Wallbox Plus, the Multifunction Charger (MFC), and any other AC‑charging device.

Customers only need an electricity tariff that supports BMW’s remote charging‑control functionality. Many compatible electricity providers offer this, including E.ON.

Customer Benefits

• Significant reduction in home charging costs

• Consideration of individual mobility needs

• Protection of vehicle components

• Additional E.ON bonus of 50 Euros on top of the new‑customer bonus
